About Me

I am a dentist in the south of England, part time photographer, full time discusser of topics great and small and whisky enthusiast. I lived in Glasgow for 7 years, and learned to love whisky while I was there.

  1. Hi. Liking your blog.
    A note on dentists and dentistry!;
    After 3 years leave from my dentist, i’ve returned, somewhat apologetically, and had a check up etc. When filling out the form about my dental lifestyle, i commented in the section ‘other comments’;
    “non-smoker. Drinks red wine, real ale and lots of peated whisky”.
    I can see red wine having an effect on teeth, but what’s your experience with some of Islay’s finest on the enamel?

    1. Other than the very small amount of sugar it contains, as far as I’m aware there is little to no effect on enamel. There is however, the standard warning of any high alcohol spirit with regards to mouth cancer, but without smoking as an added combo, the risk is limited, and the proof is disputable. Did your dentist have anything to add?

  2. I think the free spirit you inherited came from me too, It was the canoeing wok at Loch Insh Canoe and Sailing school with Clive Freshwater on the Spey that first started my interest in the great speyside malts. I enjoyed our night on the beach and in my recall we rounded it off with some cask strength whiskies but memory fails me beyond that….

  3. Hi. I really like your website. I’m a big fan of whiskey in general. So much so we’ve started sourcing and aging coffee beans in whiskey barrels. Any chance you would be up for reviewing our coffee for your blog readers? I can send out some free samples to you. Awesome site by the way.

    Let me know.

anything to add...?
